Winter Trial day 1

A very misty start met us before dawn and a short drive brought us to the first regularity. Simple on paper but very slippery in reality. A steady approach is the best approach on these long events so a sensible start saw us a bit late but unscathed.

Next an ice test on a rally cross circuit, equally icy but equally steady.

Some fantastic scenery and an interesting halt at a Norwegian car museum. They had sheds full of memorabilia (vintage crap) a working garage (all the kit I have in mine but 10x the size) and an great barn full of old cars including a pre-war AC and some interesting old Skodas.

More regularities brought us to lunch of Elk burgers (excellent) and odd cheese. Some peculiar brown stuff that tasted sweet. Probably some local delicacy but of aquired taste.

As the afternoon passed and the sun set at around 4.30,local time, the temperature dropped making the roads treacherous. Remarkably we kept a sensible regime and completed the day without incident.

A weather warning has been issued for freezing rain tomorrow and the organisers are keeping an open mind as to what route we will be able to complete, so no information until departure at 08.58.As expected our GaugePilot has been remarkably accurate all day despite the slippery conditions.
