VCC Run near Uckfield

A grand day out with Mike Mutters and his Stanley Steam car. A first for me in a steam powered car, remarkably serene with little noise apart from train chuffing noises on uphill sections under throttle. The most surprising part is that, unlike a piston engine car, at junctions the car is silent as the engine is not turning, its quite eerie almost as if it had stalled.

I learnt a lot about steam motoring today; blow lamps, jets, valves, oil, fuel and water pumps. we even replenished the water from a ford we passed through. Although I now understand this was just showing off!
